Step 1 Lesson 18: Party Planning Online
The Internet can be an invaluable resource for planning lots of things - vacations, finances, your career, you name it. For example, you won't believe how easy it is to organize a party online. There are resources and tools on the Web to help you every step of the way.

PLAN AN ONLINE PARTY

Sites abound that offer step-by-step party planning tasks for all kinds of events and holidays, from choosing a theme, to providing a planning timeline to menu planning -- even what kind of decorations would be best.

  • Send online invitations in a flash. Those receiving the cyber invites can see what each person is bringing (that way there won't be too many salads, or too few cookies!) You can invite someone for anything from coffee to a ski holiday...all through your e-mail

  • If you plan a smashing shindig, but no one can find it, what then? Luckily, MapQuest can provide you and your guests with free printable maps so no one will drive around in circles in search of your soiree.

  • If you're sending snail mail invites, you can now print stamps using your home printer.

  • Not sure what to serve? Many sites offer menu and recipe ideas. for all sorts of occasions. Some sites even offer suggestions on beverages that go with your menu.

  • You can order wine, flowers, party decorations, whatever you might need. Party favors and goodies for kids' birthday parties can easily be ordered as well. Pictures are usually provided to help in your decision-making.

  • When it comes to giving or getting gifts, online wish lists and gift registries abound.
And in those instances when you're the guest , be sure and send a thank you e-greeting to your host or hostess applauding their own fabulous party planning skills!

Just about the only thing you can't do online is see your friends face-to-face -- unless you have WebCam, but that's a future lesson! In the meantime, planning your party online will save you tons of time you can use on other things - like surfing the Web!
  • Step 2: Extra Credit
Invite some online friends to meet for lunch through www.evite.com. Make sure to send along directions from mapquest.com. Or, thank a hostess for a recent soiree with an e-greeting.
    Step 3: Cyber Challenge
