Living La Vie en Rose!

Two years ago I was living and working in San Francisco as a freelance multimedia writer/content
developer while going to grad school at Mills College. Since my school schedule was all over the
place, I wound up telecommuting, working mostly from home. I grew to like working in my pajamas
and at odd hours, and old habits die hard. So when I finished school, I wasn't exactly looking for
another on-site project. I had just published two articles in a magazine that was headquartered
right down the street even though I had never set foot in their office, when it occurred to me that
I could live anywhere. So I packed up my PowerBook and moved to Paris.

The Internet allows me to write freelance for a variety of U.S.-based clients. And, since Paris is
the city of inspiration, I find myself with no shortage of article ideas for other magazines back
home! In addition, while in graduate school, I started writing a book about Paris in the 1920s.
My Web-enabled freelance career affords me the flexibility to finish up my research. I developed
the "Bohemian Paris Walking Tour" as a way to keep me from being cooped-up in front of the computer
all day. I take tourists on 2-hour walks through the literary and artistic Left Bank, and basically
get paid to talk about all the research I've done on this era that I love. Since the Web is such a
great resource for travelers, I can do all my marketing online. I get tourists from all over the
world who find out about me through my Web site
www.onecity.com/paris or related
articles I've written for online travel magazines.

What more can I say? Because of Internet technology, la vie est belle!
